If you like contributing to forums or blogging, go join some French sites. It's a good way to pick up contemporary phrases and French netiquette.

There are good sites at

www.ffe.fr - the French BHS if horses are your scene
www.bande-dessinee.org - if you like comic strip books

Put whatever you are interested in google.fr and go and see if there's a forum.
