I have heard mixed reports on how a UK pension lump sum, which would be tax free in the UK, is taxed in France. Please could you point me towards a definitive answer (if such exists)

many thanks

Thank you for your enquiry.

The French tax authorities do not recognize tax-free cash from a UK pension plan. Therefore, if you are resident in France for French tax purposes (e.g. you have retired there) you will be taxed in France on the cash which will be treated for French tax purposes as income.

Yours sincerely
